Rydal Hall

The main Hall has 30 bedrooms, sleeping up to 50 guests. Most choose to stay full-board, but for those who prefer, we also take bookings for Dinner Bed & Breakfast or simply B&B. Bookings can be made by groups or just private individuals looking for a break.

Each room offers simple but comfortable accommodation complementing the surroundings and character of the Hall. All rooms are supplied with bed linen, towels, toiletries, hospitality trays and free wifi. Hairdryers are available to borrow from Reception. In keeping with our primary purpose as a retreat house, bedrooms do not have televisions or telephones, but there is a television and DVD player in The Library for houseguests to use.

Rydal Hall is in a lovely setting with the Fairfield Horseshoe and Nab Scar as a backdrop. All bedrooms have at least a limited view of the surrounding landscape. Rooms at the front of the Hall have fantastic views over the formal gardens and down the Rothay Valley and we charge a £5 per person per night supplement for these rooms.

Most bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms; 3 rooms have private bathrooms adjacent to the room and 2 rooms share a bathroom. Guests in the 5 rooms without en-suite bathrooms are provided with a bathrobe to use during their stay.

Single and double rooms are available; in addition, we have a few rooms for 3 to 4 people.

Accommodation options:

"Full board" includes 3-course dinner, full breakfast, lunch and mid-morning and afternoon refreshments with tray bakes.

"Half board" includes 3-course dinner and full breakfast.

Breakfast includes bacon, fried or poached egg, tomato, hash brown and beans. A variety of fruit juices (orange, apple and blackcurrant), prunes, grapefruit, yogurt and cereals. Tea & coffee with toast with different types of spreads and croissants. Cow’s and soya milk.

Lunch could vary from soup and sandwiches to a salad, cold meat buffet or a 2-course hot lunch.

Meals in the dining room include vegetarian and gluten-free options; other dietary requirements can be catered for but please let us know in advance.

Please note that as Rydal is a retreat house, our dining room is set up a little differently from a standard hotel. We have set mealtimes, and guests sit together around four communal tables.

Our bar is usually open from 6pm until 10pm and other times by arrangement. If you would like service outside these times, please ask at reception and if you are planning to bring a group please let us know what bar times you require. Our licence hours are between 10.30 am until 11pm.

We serve a wide range of drinks including: bottled local beers, bottled cider, bottled lager and wine by the glass or bottle, spirits and soft drinks. Drinks can be taken through to the dining room to accompany your meal.

For guests who wish, our chaplaincy team can be available by prior arrangement and we can provide areas for quiet contemplation, including our chapel where simple services are held daily.

There is one wheelchair-accessible bedroom on the first floor with level access to an en-suite wet room. First floor rooms are accessible via a chairlift for guests with reduced mobility.

  • We offer a 10% discount for churches and registered charities on rates for Day Delegates, Hall accommodation and Bunkhouse. Proof of eligibility should be provided when booking.

    • children under 4 years: No charge
    • ages 4-9 years: 25% of adult rate
    • ages 10-14 years: 50% of adult rate
    • ages 15-17: 75% of adult rate
