Tom Harrison House’s Crew visit us in winter time….

19th January 2019

We are very pleased to see how the Tom Harrison House charity is helping many people through recovery focus activities.

It is always such a great pleasure to have them at Rydal. We hope that the time spent here is of a great help in their journey.

Formal Gardens

These guys are very hands on! We want to thank them for helping Bruna, our head Gardener, mulching the formal garden, the community vegetable garden, especially in the orchard around the apple trees and for helping the Estates Team to clear the invasive Rhododendron to encourage native species to grow and eventually to be able to plant native trees.

Steve’s talk in the bunk house

During their stay, Steve Watts, ex-Grenadier Guardsman, shared his journey with all of them from “The Heart of the Lakes to Everest” an unbelievable and motivational story of passion, determination and endurance in which Steve ventures to none other than Everest Base Camp and beyond…. The summit of Kala Patthar (18,500ft). The talk also takes inspiration from Steve’s love for the Lake District.

The guys cooked a delicious curry afterwards for all of us to enjoy!

As always it is great having them all at Rydal. We look forward to having them all back in 6 weeks! Keep up the good work!

"I am an ex Grenadier Guardsman and can relate to their individual issues and hoping they can all make a full recovery back into society, it is an absolute privilege to share my story with those who helped protect our nation in whatever campaigns they fought. Thomas Harrison House do a remarkable job along with Rydal Hall with the tremenduos support in the way of providing the ex soldiers with respite in such wonderful surroundings on their way to recovery!" - Steve Watts (Lakeland Walks & Talks)
